Head to Europe’s summer gay capital, Sitges, about a 40-minute train ride from Barcelona. Local trains run frequently, every 10-15 minutes, from Barcelona and back until late evening. On weekends, they’re slightly less frequent.
Sitges is a small town with stunning natural beauty and a cozy, small-town vibe. Even if you’re just looking for a gorgeous coastline with sandy, gently sloping beaches, it’s worth a visit.

This is a gay-friendly town. Numerous gay bars, restaurants, and shops cater to the community, and there’s a Pride festival as well as a Bear Weekend every September, when the entire town revolves around the Sitges Bear Weekend. During this time, 4,000-5,000 gay bears flock to the city. The rest of the year, especially in summer, gay life dominates. There’s a beach for gay bears and a bear bar open in the evenings.
The bear beach is also a nudist beach, so don’t be surprised if a naked family sets up next to a couple of cuddling bears. The beach, sheltered by small cliffs, has two sunbathing areas. Unofficially, one is mainly used by gay men (especially bears), but this isn’t a strict rule. During our visit, we saw one or two overly amorous moments, but this wasn’t typical of the beach as a whole.
