Who is a bear, who are the gay bears? To many, bear identity is just about looks (hairy, big or muscular build), while others see it as a lifestyle. Just like the physical traits, bear identity has spawned countless definitions. Chaser
The bear chaser is that young guy who’s totally hooked on stocky, hairy, pot-bellied, or rugged bears and cubs. In sharp contrast, he himself is usually slimmer, smoother-skinned, far less furry, often a so-called “twink” with a flat belly, athletic or lean lines, minimal body fat, a smooth chest, and either shaved or naturally sparse hair.
His look is youthful, fresh, pure “hunter” vibe—he has zero desire to turn into a bear, but craves the exact opposite of his own toned frame: that soft, cuddly body to wrap around.
Otter
The hairy guy (otter) in the bear community refers to slim, furry men where the emphasis is on lean-muscular, defined lines rather than stocky or bulky builds. Typically featuring visible abs or lightly etched contours, but not bodybuilder-level sculpting, more a natural runner-swimmer physique with an elongated torso, narrow waist, proportional shoulders, slimmer yet strong and agile arms and legs. Bear

Fur is non-negotiable: thick, dark or silvering hair blankets the chest, belly, back, shoulders, arms, legs, and frequently the face, where a heavy beard, mustache, or stubble reigns, amplifying the wild, untamed masculinity. The skin is always “lived-in,” mature, never smooth or boyish. Muscle Bear

These bears hit the weights hard, packing broad shoulders, thick arms, a bulging chest, defined abs or at least a tight core, powerful thighs, and a wide back—all wrapped in a thick pelt of fur. Dense, dark chest hair, full beard or heavy stubble, often buzzed hair or a shaved head accentuate the muscle lines.
