Cubby84

In the vibrant world of the gay bear community, Dusty Fuller, known to many as “Cubby84,” has become a celebrated figure for his inspiring transformation as a gainer. The Phoenix-based business analyst recently shared a striking pair of photos on social media: one from five years ago, when he weighed 170 lbs, and another taken just weeks ago, showcasing his current 275 lbs physique. This remarkable 105 lbs weight gain is a testament to Dusty’s dedication, pride, and intentional journey to embody the robust, bearish aesthetic he always admired.

For those unfamiliar, gainers are individuals who deliberately increase their body weight, often aiming for a fuller, rounded belly or a commanding, hefty presence. While some embrace a chubby lifestyle, others, like Dusty, strive for the muscular, “bear” physique—a blend of significant mass and muscle that’s highly revered in the bear community. For Dusty, gaining isn’t about simply getting bigger; it’s about sculpting a body that feels authentic and powerful.

Originally from a small town in Nebraska, Dusty moved to Phoenix in 2012 at age 21, eager to start anew. Initially drawn to bodybuilding, he spent hours in the gym chasing a lean, chiseled look. But the results felt unfulfilling, and Dusty soon realized that the shredded aesthetic wasn’t his true calling. “I always envied the big, burly bears in the community,” he recalls. By 2015, he set a new goal: to become a massive, muscular bear, embracing both size and strength.

Gaining weight might seem straightforward to outsiders, but for Dusty, it’s been a rigorous and calculated process. To maintain and grow his physique, he consumes 4,000–5,000 calories daily—a commitment that demands meticulous planning and perseverance. “It’s not just eating whatever you want,” Dusty explained in a recent interview. “It’s a conscious effort that takes discipline.”

Dusty’s journey hasn’t been a solo endeavor. In 2016, he married his partner, Steve, whom he met in 2013. Steve’s unwavering support, coupled with the bear community’s inclusive spirit, has been instrumental in Dusty’s confidence. While some family members have expressed concern about his transformation—some even preferred his slimmer frame—most of his friends and loved ones have embraced his choices. “A few shallow connections faded, but my true friends have been nothing but supportive,” he shares.

Dusty is acutely aware of the health risks associated with significant weight gain, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular issues, and joint strain. He takes proactive steps to monitor his well-being, attending regular checkups and keeping tabs on his health markers. His cholesterol levels remain normal, though he’s experienced minor blood pressure issues and knee pain, which he attributes to genetics rather than weight, as thinner family members face similar problems. “I’m careful and stay on top of my health,” he says. “If my weight ever caused serious issues, I’d lose it. Health comes first.”

Emotionally, Dusty feels more at home in his bearish body than ever before. At bear events, where the community celebrates larger physiques, he’s in his element, radiating confidence. Yet, in mainstream settings, he occasionally grapples with self-acceptance. “It depends on the environment,” he admits. “In the bear community, I’m completely at ease, but in the broader world, it can still be a challenge.”

At 275 lbs, Dusty is thrilled with his progress but has no plans to stop. He aims to add another 25-30 lbs, ideally as muscle, before maintaining that weight long-term. Reflecting on his journey, he says, “For the first time, my body feels like a true reflection of who I am. It’s been a long road, but it’s worth every step.”

Dusty Fuller, aka Cubby84, is more than a gainer—he’s a symbol of self-discovery and authenticity in the gay bear community. His story reminds us that true transformation goes beyond the physical, rooted in courage, community, and an unapologetic embrace of one’s identity.
