Dandy

Dandy is the alternative queer club night built by bears, for bears, cubs, chubs and everyone who loves them — and then flung the doors wide open.

It started in Manchester with a clear mission: the bear scene deserved better than the same old restrictive gay spaces that often sidelined bigger, hairier, softer, louder bodies. So the crew (Deany Sevigny and the resident DJs) built something different. Music first. Atmosphere second. Zero dress code, zero drama, maximum queer joy. Alt-pop, disco favourites, indie bangers, hyperpop, nu-rave throwbacks, gay icons and pure queer noise that makes you want to lose the shirt and keep dancing until the lights come up.

Dandy is proudly for the bears, the cubs, the chubs, the otters, the muscle bears, the daddies, the beauts, the femmes, the freaks, the Marthas, the Arthurs, the losers, the bruisers, the queens and the queers. All bodies, all faces, all genders, all identities welcome — as long as you’re cool, kind and ready to party with the fur. No TERFs on this turf. Body positivity isn’t a slogan here; it’s the whole damn point. You come as you are, or as you want to be. Leave the hang-ups at the door.

The vibe is pure undiluted LGBTQ energy mixed with a mid-night pizza run to keep the stamina up after hours of jumping around. It’s the kind of night where a 20-something cub and a 60-year-old grizzly can share the same dance floor without anyone batting an eyelid, where the music is as diverse as the crowd, and where the only rule is celebrate yourself and each other.

From its Manchester roots the party has spread to London (regular residency at the legendary Royal Vauxhall Tavern), Birmingham, Sheffield and even further afield. Same ethos everywhere: inclusive, accessible, music-driven, and unapologetically for the bear community and the wider queer family that shows up to dance with us.

So if you’re a hairy, soft, strong, shy, loud, young, older, or anything-in-between bear (or bear-lover) looking for a night that actually feels like home — come to Dandy. The floor is waiting, the tunes are ready, and the pizza is on its way.

Regular nights land at the legendary Royal Vauxhall Tavern (372 Kennington Lane, London SE11 5HY) roughly every other month, with frequent parties in Manchester at The Brewers (4 Canal Street, M1 3HE) and The Deaf Institute (135 Grosvenor Street, M1 7HE). Birmingham appearances take place at The Hub @ Eden (138 Gooch Street, B5 7HF), an accessible venue with lift access. The RVT has limited seating—contact the venue for specific access needs.
